Life is so funny isn’t it? I vividly remember saying, “I’ll NEVER live in Waco after I graduate high school”, and “Moms with three kids are nuts”, and my personal favorite, “I can’t imagine being a teacher after having my own children.” I’m forever grateful that the Lord didn’t let my immature, outrageous statements dictate my life. I am SO thankful to be a wife and mother living in Waco and working at Woodway Christian School. And as a bonus blessing my kids have all had the joy and privilege of attending WCS. Seeing how this school set the foundation for my children spiritually and academically made the decision to teach here a very easy YES.
A little about myself: I grew up in Waco as the oldest Purdy girl. That’s right…Mrs. Purdy is my mom and Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Warren are my sisters! I graduated with a BA in English from Texas Tech University in 1999, married Mark Wood, and we began a lovely life in Arlington. Realizing quickly that “English jobs” aren’t really a thing, I went back to school at UTA and received my teaching certificate for grades K-4. I taught Kindergarten in Arlington for 2 years and then we moved back to Waco where I taught 2nd grade at Woodway Christian School. I also worked part time in the office for a few years and then made the decision to be a stay at home parent. During those stay at home years I was a nanny, taught Zumba, Coordinated Events, began a ministry, taught Hallelujah House, and currently I’m a Sondays Camp Counselor and teach 7th grade girls Sunday School at First Woodway.
My kids are growing up: Ryan is almost 17 and will be a junior in high school, Ally’s 13 and starting 8th grade and Brady is 8 and entering 3rd grade. {In case you’re wondering an 8 year age gap is both hilarious and challenging to parent.} I have always loved kids. God placed that passion in my heart at an early age and I’m THRILLED to be back in the classroom again teaching 4 year-olds. I’m Looking forward to a fantastic year.
