My name is Rachel Reid and I will be teaching third and fourth grade this year. My favorite thing about teaching is finding out what really lights each student’s fire and develops their individual passion for learning. I want all of the students in my class to leave with a desire to be lifelong learners because they have seen that learning can be fun. My primary goal is to make sure each of my students understands the vast love of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and how His love permeates all areas of our lives and subjects we study.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Education from Baylor University and was originally certified to teach Secondary Education. Immediately after school, I pursued a career in legislative policy analysis before teaching high school history and government in public school in the Dallas area. It was not until after having my own kids that I realized I really enjoyed teaching younger students more. There is nothing I enjoy more than seeing a spark ignite in young students! I homeschooled my own children for several years before transitioning back to a formal education environment, teaching pre-school. My favorite grade to teach my own 2 was third grade.
When I am not teaching, I love to be with my family. My husband, David works at Baylor in the School of Business. We have been married 16 years and have 2 children. Cole is 13 and will be in 8th grade. He loves all sports but especially basketball and is always on the move. Maryn is 11 and will be in 6th grade. She loves to play basketball, volleyball, and sew. No mention of my family can be complete without describing our pets. We have 2 dachshunds (a.k.a. weenie dogs) named Barkley and Emmy. We have 1 very entitled cat named Sparkles. When I’m not hanging with my family, I love to cook, read, and go to the movies.
