I was born and raised on the East Coast in the very southern tip of Virginia, 20 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean. My husband and I met in high school and were married on July 11, 1998. The USMC moved us to bases in both North & South Carolina, before we settled back in VA after Robert left active duty. We honestly thought that was where we would raise our own family. However, God’s plans always supercede our own, and He called us to Waco in 2007 to live out the plan He has for our lives.
Shortly after moving to Waco, God called me to return to school and finish my degree where I earned a Bachelor’s in Business from Tarleton University. From there, I earned a Master’s of Education from Louisiana College through a partnership with Region 12. I currently hold certifications for EC-6th Generalist, 4-8 ELA, & EC-12 ESL Supplemental. It is my goal to someday return to school and get my Doctorate, however I have to put my 3 girls through college first.
Before finishing my degree, I taught preschool for eight years. After I graduated, I went on to do two more years of Pre-K before moving on to 3rd grade at a public charter school. While teaching at a charter school was very challenging, the many valuable lessons I learned from it are what shaped me into the teacher I am today, and I would not trade that experience for anything. Four years ago, God called me to make yet another change- this time to WCS where I teach English for grades 5-8. Talk about a leap of faith! From Pre-K to 3rd, to Middle School…quite a jump. The way God works things is incredible. When I taught pre-k, I would have laughed at you if you had suggested I would ever teach kids taller than myself, but God has placed such a love for these ‘big’ kids in my heart! What an honor and a privilege it is to be able to teach them again this year.
